Innovative Autobrow System


The Autobrow system is a low cost, low weight, modular solution to safely transfer personnel from offshore wind farm support vessels to wind turbine towers in rough sea conditions.  For wind farm operators this will significantly improve the operating envelope - up to 3m significant seas - with the benefit of reduced operating costs, improved technician safety, and higher turbine availability (and hence revenue).

The Autobrow System has been developed by Otso Ltd from a concept design by Ad Hoc Marine Designs.  The design was selected as a winner in the 2011, 2012 and 2013  Carbon Trust  Offshore Wind Accelerator (OWA) Access competitions and recently recognised by the Technology Strategy Board as part of their Developing the offshore wind supply chain programme.  The system will go through sea trials later in spring 2014, and will then available for new build, and operators for retrofit.

In recognition of the innovative nature of the design, the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET)  selected selected the Autobrow as a finalist in the Product Design category of the most recent IET Innovation Awards.  It was also a finalist in the Royal Institution of Naval Architects innovation awards.

NEWS: Testing of the Autobrow on a motion platform, accurately representing typical vessel motion has successfully been completed.  The comprehensive testing allowed independent performance assessment of a wide range of motions and frequencies as well as test runs using actual vessel motion data.
